Hmmm....I'm tempted!

Went to the doctor today - I'm now 34 weeks pregnant...and it is a wonderful milestone to reach. If the baby were born now he would have as good a survival rate as if he were full term. Whew! I'm so excited to be that far along...although it also makes me nervous to be that close to delivery! I'm not sure I'm ready to have a newborn, but I'm definitely ready to have my body back so I guess it's one or the other!

Everything is looking fine and normal with the pregnancy - and the doctor confirmed that I am indeed carrying the baby really low...thus all the nerve pain in my back and legs. He is head down (low low down) and he has a favorite position with his rear end on one side of my tummy (making me all lopsided) and his feet pushing against the other side. You can actually see these two little bumps where his feet are pushing - it's crazy! Dr. said that usually when women carry a baby that low it means a quicker delivery...here's hoping.

So the reason I'm tempted is that he also gave me the option of being induced early to avoid the chance of being in the hospital for the 4th of July holiday (I'm due on the 7th). I've never had a doctor offer to induce me early purely for convenience and I must say at this point it sounds really appealing. I've been all gung-ho this time for laboring in the tub and trying to avoid an epidural. But if I get induced that concept is out the window. I was induced with Josh and I know how much more painful it can be. But the trade-off of delivering early may just be worth it. AND even more of a consideration is that if I am able to schedule the delivery, I can plan for babysitters and eliminate all the worry of wondering who will be available to help with my other kids, as well as making sure Mark is nearby since he works in SLC and normally rides the bus which might make it tricky for him to get home if I were to go into labor mid-day. Then again, maybe I will just go into labor early on my own and that will answer the question for me. I was a week early with Holly and Ammon...so there is a good chance. Mark is on a business trip in Mexico City so I haven't yet gotten his opinion...any advice anyone?

  1. I was induced with both of mine. One 2 weeks early because of PUPPPS and the other one a week early just because the doctor offered and I got an epidural before I felt much pain and was so numb I didn't feel anything the whole time both times. It was awesome for me because I don't deal well with pain in general. But I understand your situation, I was really hoping to go into labor on my own but didn't have the will power to go longer than the doctor would make me. Sorry I am not much help. Good Luck!

  2. Emily...wow, so many things to think about. Hopefully he will come early and you won't have to worry about it. I enjoyed reading your thoughts and feelings about the whole deal and can't wait to see how it will play out. Love Ella's graduation pictures and the birthday pictures. Sigh...next year I'll be there!

  3. I say, let him come when he is ready. You know that with all of the family you have around any of us would drop anything at a moments notice and come watch your kids. I know it is the "Horton Women's Way" to be able to plan and organize everything, but some things like this are just so amazing to let happen on their own. That said, if you want him out and the peace of mind of knowing when he will come,go for it, schedule that date:)

  4. Hmmmm....after knowing that you wanted to try to go naturally, I say, let things play out on their own. My mom always suggests letting the baby "bake" as long as possible. Perhaps my girls wouldn't have had jaundice had they not been early. However, I've done it both ways. I was pre-induced with Samuel (like Stephanie) with a cream, and went naturally. Induced with lowest dose of pitocin with Jocelyn, went naturally (and I agree, the pitocin was hard) and then went on my own, nearly a week early, naturally, with Cecily. I wanted to go early with Cecily so I tried lots of things naturally like bowling, red LEAF raspberry tea several times a day, but I did not go as far as castor oil bcse I heard that just gives you tummy problems. Did you still want to borrow the hypno book? Plus, if you're open to go naturally or have an epidural, then you can't let yourself down either way.

  5. I went natural with my last one and still went a week early. I loved it, it was VERY hard but a very neat experience. Good luck to ya!!!
